Stanton Wine

The Stanton family has been growing grapes in the Napa Valley since 1947. Beginning with the harvest of 1999, Doug Stanton began selecting some of their best Oakville Cabernet for the Stanton Vineyards label. In addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, the Stantons grow Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah. Roughly half of our acreage lies in the Oakville appellation, and the other half within the St. Helena appellation of he Napa Valley.

The Oakville appellation in Napa Valley has long been recognized as a unique combination of soil, topography and climate that join together to create an environment optimal to producing world class Cabernet Sauvignon. For over 40 years the Stanton Family has grown exceptional cabernet grapes on their 42-acre Oakville vineyard. Beginning in 1999, they have sourced fruit from a small section of this vineyard to produce a limited number of cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2009 growing conditions were ideal. The result: a wine that is intensely concentrated with expressive aromas of ripe cassis, blackberry and blueberry, masterfully integrated with 50% new French oak by winemaker Dave Phinney. The growing season of 2008 produced smaller-than-normal berries and fewer clusters per vine. As such, our yields were almost half of normal. The result is a wine that is intensely concentrated with expressive aromas of ripe cassis, blackberry and blueberry. This fine wine finishes with smooth, well integrated oak flavors and medium to full tannins.

This vintage brings a reprise of the last year's 100% representation of our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon varietal. Everything from its deep purple color to its aromas of dark berries, Creme de Cassis, blueberries, sweet vanilla and humidor spice marks this as an exceptionally ripe Cabernet.

The 2006 vintage is a delicious 100% varietal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. This represents a departure from accustomed practice at Stanton Vineyards, in that there is not the slightest influence of any other grape variety in the wine.

Consistent and loyal fans of Stanton Petite Sirah will not be disappointed with this 2009 offering. This fruit-driven Petite Sirah is every bit as rich, opulent and structured as previous Stanton Petite Sirahs. Its dark, brooding texture is masterfully integrated to allow the chocolate berry fruit to shine bright against the nice oak finish. Building on the strong success of both the 2006 and 2007 Stanton Vineyards Petite Syrah, this 2008 vintage offers the same hedonistic display of deep, dark, chocolate berry fruit with the smooth integrated tannins that true Stanton Vineyard fans have come to expect from the combined talents of Winegrower Doug Stanton and Winemaker Dave Phinney.
